Buffalo Wild Wings - Blazin’ Trivia Branding

 Building off of our rebrand work for Buffalo Wild Wings’ in-bar network, we helped BWW launch their new Blazin’ Trivia team night program. We took all of our knowledge of the Buffalo Wild Wings brand and extended it to their trivia product. Partnering with the team at BWW and FanHub (who developed the app and interactive portions), our goal was to inject new life into existing designs of their Daily Trivia while tying it to the overall OT network branding. This included an updated look for the app as well as custom video sections.

After spending a year collaborating with Inspire Brands / BWW on the creation of the OT network and the brand surrounding, we had become experts in the Buffalo Wild Wings brand. But our knowledge of all things wings, beer, and sports was about to be put to the test in the creation of a team trivia program. The challenge was to craft a product that tied in all of the bold excitement of the OT brand, while honoring existing designs so Daily Trivia users weren’t alienated.

Trivia that’s anything but trivial…

The Buffalo Wild Wings brand is bold, social, spontaneous, high energy, and intentionally playful. We had to imbue these values into every aspect of the Blazin’ Trivia design, from the question screens on the app to the category cards to the custom videos playing on screen in the bar. It was a complex task to make sure the pre-recorded video, live-streamed questions, and interactive elements all felt like they cohesively went together.

We tackled this in two unique ways. The first was to work directly with FanHub. They provided us with the existing app designs, and we used those to create subtle updates to match the overall look and feel of the trivia program.

While FanHub implemented the updated look in the app, our team worked on the custom video sections for the game, like the Grand Opening, How the Game Works, and a Prizing Sizzle. Since the interactive portion of the game had to be lightweight and run in HTML5, Buffalo Wild Wings wanted the videos to have an epic and cinematic feel.

Each video needed to have the energy of a live sporting event without reading too specifically as "sports," as Blazin' Trivia covers a wide variety of topics.

Categorically Bold Design

We wanted every inch of Blazin' Trivia to have the playful personality of Buffalo Wild Wings, and the cards introducing each category were a perfect opportunity to toss in some BWW flavor.

Slick transitions for 1000

To keep the energy going between questions, we animated a series of quick transitions that match the lightweight look of the HTML5 portions. It took extensive development and testing to make sure that these animations worked and looked great within the framework of the proprietary HTML delivery boxes.

And the answer is...

As with OT, we had a blast creating this fun extension of the Buffalo Wild Wings brand.
