Rewind TV Network Branding

When we were asked to brand Rewind TV for its launch, we pumped up our Reeboks, teased our hair, and strapped on our swatches, because we had one month to get this totally tubular network ready for its neon debut.

We worked closely with Nexstar Media Group to develop an entire brand network package for their newest offering, Rewind TV. The new over-the-air network provides viewers with a lineup of beloved shows from the 80s and 90s.

Everything old is new again

Rewind TV is a spin-out of the already existing Antenna TV. While Antenna TV has a wider range of shows from the 50s through 90s, the new Rewind TV focuses on 80s & 90s shows - many of the iconic sitcoms we know and love. Like Antenna TV, Rewind TV is a free-to-watch, over-the-air network.

Totally radical design thinking

Our creative concept team is comprised of multiple generations of talent. We let this brain trust put on their metaphorical shoulder pads and let loose to visualize what the 80s/90s meant to each of them personally. We then took those concepts and pulled together several iconic design directions.

Pulling from some of the most recognizable looks of the past and adding our own modern touches, we came up with several fun designs for the base design concepts. Stickers, neon, and VHS sleeves all found their way into the initial looks.

Be kind: Rewind

The team at Nexstar connected with the concept that centered around everyone's favorite rewindable object: the VHS. As we collaborated with the team further, it was clear that we all had fond memories of iconic VHS packaging. Three distinct looks emerged, harkening back to our favorite old-school designs, but infused with touches from the other concepts.

Dope colors and phat fonts

We developed a color palette and font set to feel fresh and retro at the same time. Our colors got playful nods to the era, like Purple Rain and Pacman.

The original brief called for SD, title safe designs. Even after it was determined to not be required, we decided to keep it to better highlight the SD source material, because every design should be immersive.

All that and a bag of chips

Utilizing a logo that Nexstar developed internally, we provided tweaks to the color and animation. Mixing together all the elements for title cards, lower thirds, and promos, the final result is a bodacious branding package that combines nostalgia and neon.

Social studies

We also developed templates for something sooooo not 80s: social media. Each look was developed into a full social media toolkit, fully optimized for each medium. Try doing that on a Commodore 64!

“Elevation completely surpassed our expectations. From the get-go they were in tune with the overall vision for the network, developing a look far beyond anything we could have ever dreamed of. Aside from creative, they always made themselves available to us, met deadlines (even quick turn-arounds) and always touched base with updates through the production process. We WILL work with Elevation again!”
